BYC is a Nepali NGO established in 1985. Nepali citizens can join BYC as members and participate in its activities. At present BYC has 92 general members and 20 life members. The general body elects an Executive Board of fifteen members in every four years. The board forms inclusively out of gender, castes and region. It comprises of minimum of 20% of women. The chairperson is entrusted for establishing relationship with different GOs, NGOs, CBOs and INGOs for meetings, decisions on any official business and for signing agreements/contracts on behalf of BYC. BYC's aim is to advocate for civil society through: promoting community conscientation , organization and mobilization; good governance; equitable utilization and distribution of resources; ecologically sustainable development; and intercultural identification, understanding and cooperation.

BYC is guided by 5 basic principles:

·         People's Participation - Development by people

·         Inclusive representation

·         Good governance

·         Sustainable development

·         Poverty focus approach

 

These overall aims provide guideline for a wider variety of activities in which BYC involves. The sphere of operation of BYC is, at present, more focused within the 3 districts of Dhaulagiri zone viz. Baglung, Myagdi and Prabat districts though it has constitutional provision of working through out Nepal. The goal of BYC is to work for development, ecology/environment balance and promotion, and human rights protection among the poorest and volunerable section of the society, good governance through accountability and transparency. The activities in which BYC has involved covers irrigation, drinking water, forestry, agriculture, track and tail (road) construction, education, environment protection, school rehabilitation and research, women and children rights protection and development.

 

BYC seeks to advance its goal by influencing the attitude of donors, government and local bodies so as to channeling support towards the actual needy people within the society. In addition, we try to create better understanding of Nepal: cultural and social characteristics, and particularly of development problems of the rural poor. Moreover, BYC do lobbying among GOs, NGOs and INGOs in the favor of people in line with its basic principles as well as provide advisory and consultancy services to the concerned parties.

BYC is guided by the Executive Board elected by its general assembly in every four years. The board controls NGO's activities towards assisting poor and disadvantaged group in their development efforts by mobilising various internal as well as external resources experiences.BYC is a Nepali NGO established in 1985.
